Schools were only the best place to meet a future spouse for the Echo Boomers (age 18-27).Another very common avenue of meeting a life partner was being introduced through friends, especially for older people over the age of 59.Even for those determined to marry within the Orthodox Church, finding a future spouse can be very difficult. In order to help our readers navigate this difficult terrain, we have asked five experienced Orthodox priests to share their pastoral wisdom with regard to this issue. No topic was off limits and no one ever felt threatened because of what they shared with Art.Kathryn was a stay-at-home Mom who volunteered at the kids’ school and their parish church. In the secular west coast of Canada, Christians of any description are a distinct (and to some degree an embattled) minority, which makes devout Orthodox Christians even scarcer here.I consider that my priestly and pastoral task involves not so much offering available spouses to my single parishioners as offering them sound advice.
However, a 2006 Harris Poll revealed that most Gen Xers and Baby Boomers met their marriage partners at work.
I have heard that Natives do not normally marry outside of Natives because obviously, the difference is not just "skin deep". The Natives' view of laws, culture, worldview, etc. I've heard about a mixed marriage that lasted a while, but the wife never felt like "one" of the tribe. Also, are Native beliefs kept as strictly as they were years ago? For example, we join hands to give thanks before meals. We have agreed to take silent walks in which we both prayer/reflect/whatever. I do not feel like I am a member of the tribe but I have never been treated rudely.
The Natives' view of laws, culture, worldview, etc. I've seen Natives that don't seem to carry on their heritage with much pride. I have simply been treated like a guest and not a member of the family.
One of the reasons for the change in where people meet may be due to the increase in demands on people's time.
According to the Divorce Mag website, there are more single parents as well as more divorcees out on the market looking for love.
